What Jaguars Doug Pederson Thought Of First Round Picks Debut

What Jaguars' Doug Pederson Thought of First-Round Pick's Debut

Trevor Lawrence struggled in his first preseason game

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said he was pleased with Trevor Lawrence's debut, despite the quarterback's struggles.

Lawrence completed just 6 of 12 passes for 72 yards and an interception in the Jaguars' 24-13 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Friday night.

He was also sacked four times.

But Pederson said he saw some positive things from Lawrence, who is entering his second season in the NFL.

"I thought Trevor did some good things," Pederson said. "He made some nice throws. He made some good decisions. He's still learning, he's still growing, but I thought he showed some good poise out there."

Lawrence is expected to be the Jaguars' starting quarterback this season.

He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and he is considered one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the league.

But he struggled in his first preseason game, and he will need to improve if he wants to lead the Jaguars to success this season.

Pederson said he is confident that Lawrence will improve as the season progresses.

"I'm not worried about Trevor," Pederson said. "He's a talented player. He's a hard worker. He's going to put in the time, and he's going to get better."

The Jaguars will play their next preseason game on Saturday, August 20, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Lawrence is expected to start that game, and it will be another opportunity for him to show what he can do.
